Our History
The Beginnings
Strathmore Community Church (SCC) started in 2010 with a group of young adults and families who lived in and around the Strathmore community. Over the last fifteen years SCC has met in a number of different places including the Strathmore Community Centre, local schools and different Church buildings. SCC has always had a heart for being local, and being a safe place of belonging for the people of Strathmore. SCC has been a place for those who sometimes might find traditional Church challenging. Many people have special memories of SCC, and God has been good and faithful to our Church whānau. SCC values ‘realness’ – real community and real faith questions.
Starting Fresh
Over the covid years, SCC made the shift from meeting in a church building to gathering in homes. It was a different way of doing church, but it helped us stay connected and continue building community through a season of uncertainty. In 2023, with changes in the leadership team and after a lot of thought and prayer, we made the tough decision to put SCC on pause for a year. While this wasn’t an easy decision, it felt like the right one.
Then in 2024, SCC was relaunched with fresh energy and hope for the future. We started meeting at the Raukawa Community Centre, then moved to the Strathmore Plunket Rooms a few months later, before finally settling into our new home at Te Tūhunga Rau. Through all the changes, SCC has stayed true to who we are: a local community where people can belong, ask questions, share life together, and encounter God in real and meaningful ways
